Service dog Training

You're in the right place if:

You've decided to (or are considering) owner-training your service dog. Now you need a trainer who knows service work specifically, not a trainer who has "worked with service dogs before." Someone who does this, and only this.

That's what Pawsitive Chance is built for.

I keep my client roster small on purpose, which means you have my full attention. I know your dog by name, by temperament, and by where they left off. Nothing gets lost between sessions.

The Honest Truth About Service Dog Training

This takes time. Here's how to make the most of it.

Service dog training takes time, no matter how you approach it. It's just the reality of this work, and any trainer being straight with you will say the same thing.

What you can control is how efficiently you move through that timeline. A dog receiving consistent, structured training every month develops faster and retains skills more reliably than one trained sporadically.

That's the whole idea behind membership training. Not to lock you in, but because the structure itself is what makes progress happen.

Service dog training is the long game. A membership makes it a manageable one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Memberships are designed as a 12-month commitment and honestly, that's exactly what service dog training requires. Progress in this work is cumulative, and the clients who see the most significant results are the ones who stay consistent over a full year. That said, life happens. After the first 3 months, you can cancel with 30 days' written notice. The goal isn't to lock you in, it's to give your dog the best possible shot at success.

After your first year, your plan automatically converts to month-to-month. Around month 11, I'll reach out to talk through whether you want to continue as-is, adjust your tier, or transition to individual sessions.

Billing is automatic — your card on file is charged on the same date every month. No invoices to wait for, no manual payments to remember.

Yes, you can pause at any time. Pauses happen in 30-day increments, which keeps things predictable for both of us.

Yes, but only for one month. An unused session from January carries to February, it does not carry to March. This keeps your training moving consistently rather than letting time accumulate unused.

This is honestly one of my favorite services I offer and my clients love it too. I come to you, pick up your dog, and take them out into the real world for up to four hours. We work at various locations around town (your dog is transported in a crash-tested crate in my car for their safety) based on exactly where your dog is in their training: public access skills, task work, environmental exposure, whatever they need most that day. Your dog gets focused, professional hands-on training even on your busiest days. When I drop them back off, you get a tired dog and a full debrief on everything we worked on and what to reinforce before the next session. It's one of the most efficient and convenient parts of the higher-tier plans, and the results speak for themselves.

Quick questions, short troubleshooting, and celebration updates are what check-ins are for — and they're unlimited. If a question is complex enough to require real guidance, I'll let you know upfront that it warrants a session. No surprises.

The consultation is a three-hour deep dive where I assess your dog, learn about your goals, and map out a clear training plan. It's $250 and is the starting point for all new clients. It's also where you'll get the clearest picture of which membership tier makes the most sense for where your dog is right now.

I work with owner-trainers across a range of service dog tasks. The best way to find out if we're a good fit is to book a consultation and talk through your specific situation.

Upgrades can happen at any time — if your dog is ready for more and your schedule allows, just reach out and we'll make it happen.

Downgrades are allowed once per 12-month membership period with 30 days' written notice. This keeps things flexible without creating a situation where tier changes become disruptive to your dog's training consistency. If something significant changes in your life and you need to revisit your plan, reach out and we'll figure out the right path forward together.

Yes, individual sessions are available at $135/hour. That said, members consistently see faster progress and more predictable monthly costs, so if you're serious about moving through training efficiently, a membership plan is worth a real look.

My focus is service dog training, but I do occasionally work with pet dog clients on a case-by-case basis. These clients tend to bring the same level of seriousness and commitment I see in my service dog clients. It's not the right fit for everyone, but if that sounds like you, feel free to reach out and we can talk through whether it makes sense. Sessions are $135/hour. For behavior modification cases, I don't take those on directly, but I have a trusted network of trainers I refer to and I'm happy to point you in the right direction.
